Description of the Event:
ReLeaf Michigan, a non-profit tree organization, is partnering with the City of Eastpointe and the Green Macomb Urban Forest Partnership to plant 33 trees on Saturday morning, October 28, on the median along Kelly Road and various other locations throughout Eastpointe.
ReLeaf Michigan has worked closely with Green Macomb and the City of Eastpointe to beautify and enhance the area's natural habitats that will be enjoyed by future generations. Funding for the program is provided through a US Forest Service Great Lakes Restoration Initiative grant awarded to the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development to strategically increase tree canopy in the County's most impacted subwatersheds through long term tree planting and urban forest management. Plantings are focused in the twelve (12) GMUFP communities along and south of the Main Branch of the Clinton River in Macomb County.
Organizers are looking for volunteers to help out on Saturday morning. Families are encouraged and welcome to participate in the event. ReLeaf Michigan tree specialists will work with volunteers to show how to properly plant and maintain the trees.
Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing and bring a shovel and other appropriate tools. The group will meet at the parking lot in front of 22201 Kelly Rd at 8:30 a.m. to sign in and enjoy light refreshments. ReLeaf Michigan experts will demonstrate how to properly plant a tree at 9:00 a.m. The group will then split up to do the plantings.
Since this event is so close to Halloween, we encourage everyone tocome dressed in costume (no masks please). A prize will be awarded for best costume!
Event occurs rain or shine. No planting experience is necessary. Join us and leave a legacy that your children and grandchildren can watch grow and thrive, while also beautifying our wonderful township. We hope to see you there!
ReLeaf Michigan, a non-profit organization, partners with communities statewide to replenish our tree canopies through tree planting events. Trees provide many benefits to communities such as shade, improving economic vitality of commercial districts, absorbing storm water, and reducing carbon in our atmosphere.
