Description of the Event:

Please join us for our first-ever, FREE Bare Root Planting Class, Saturday April 22 at 10:30 am and Spring Plant Sale Fundraiser!

Spring is very quickly upon us and we know you will want to get a jump on planting perennials and forcing dramatic tropical plants like elephant ears and dahlias. We are excited to announce an educational program paired with a Bare Root Plant Sale that a team of Extension Master Gardeners has planned for just you. Growing bare root plants saves money and gives you the jump on spring with quick establishment.
Some of the best deer-resistant perennials, thrifty natives, and pollinator magnets have been chosen to be part of the line-up. Varieties for both sun and shade including some dramatic tropical plants are part of this year's sale.

The FREE one-hour class will be held on Saturday April 22 at 10:30 am. Plants will be available to pick up beginning at 9:30 am-noon that day.  (Please contact Marcia Lucas or Rebecca Finneran if you cannot pickup that date to arrange another time. Plants will only be held for one week after the event.)

Class Description: Michigan gardeners carefully await their local frost-free dates to plant colorful perennials in their garden. Sometimes this seems like forever! During this class, you can get a jump on spring planting by learning the many attributes of choosing bare-root plants. Fully dormant, bare root perennials will acclimate naturally to your soil type and growing environment—and are never jeopardized by excess organic media left on the root ball. During this class, we will also learn how to force tender tropical perennials indoors before their dramatic foliage comes alive in the summer months. We will also explore a rich pallet of perennials to add interest, seasonal color and pollinator resources in your perennial garden.
