Description of the Event:
"Bee" amazed this weekend as you take a closer look at the fascinating world of honeybees. Join us in Michigan's Farm Garden to discover different aspects of bees and beekeeping by viewing an observation hive, exploring a beekeeper's unusual equipment and making a beeswax candle. Find out how to communicate like a bee by participating in a "bee dance." Learn some amazing aspects of honey by tasting several different types and watching a honey inspired cooking demonstration.

Highlights include these family friendly activities:
In the Farm House:
Honey sampling –sample a variety of honeys – everything from raw crystallized honey to very dark buckwheat honey.
Observation hive and beekeeper's equipment and display - watch live bees in action, then try on the equipment that beekeepers use.
On the Front Lawn:
Busy bee pollen game – wear a special Velcro bee-belt and assume the role of a honey bee – collecting pretend pollen from a variety of colorful paper flowers.
Bee Dance – learn about then follow the footsteps to imitate a bee's dance.
Bee-bag game – attempt to "return the bees to their hive" with bee-inspired beanbags and a hive-shaped board.
On the Front Porch:
Bees wax candle making – create a (small) bee's wax candle to take home.
In the Barn:
Cooking demonstration – Chef Jennifer Zirkle will demonstrate Honey Granola at 1:30 and 3:00, with sampling a must!
