Description of the Event: Greetings Gardening Enthusiasts!
The MSU Extension "GIG team" would like you to join in our annual Fall Bulb Event and fundraiser on Saturday, October 20th at the MSU Extension office. With the arrival of autumn, we are excited to announce a free educational program, paired with a bulb sale that a team of Extension Master Gardeners planned just for you.
Two free classes will be offered the morning of the October 20th when you can also pick up your bulb order. You do not have to place a bulb order to participate in the free class. The first class is at 9 a.m. with a repeat session scheduled for 10:15 a.m.
BULB CLASS:
Gardens Rich with Color are Full of Bulbs!
Invite early spring pollinators to your garden with dazzling bulbs!! Enjoy rich color from bulbs from spring through autumn. Early season bulbs such as Crocus and Allium provide amazing color while enhancing floral resources for native bees and pollinators. Spring comes to life with daffodils and colorful tulips, yet beauty from bulbs does not end here. Come explore a rich pallet of interest and seasonal color that may surprise you!
Class Details: Saturday October 20 from 9 - 10 a.m. OR 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. (You may attend the free class only or purchase/pick up bulbs and attend one class).
Re-certified Ext. Master Gardeners may count one hour of education credit for the class attended.
BULB SALE
The 2018 bulb sale features many cultivars with a strong emphasis on supporting pollinators. Many of you have observed the strong connection with Allium cultivars and native pollinators. Because their genetic diversity covers a long bloom season, Allium species offer nectar and pollen resources to dozens of types of bees. Other great pollinator plants include crocus and native cultivars of Erythronium (trout lily) and Camassia (quamash). We hope you like the choices the team made this year!!
Of course the sale will also feature colorful blends of tulips, deer-resistant hyacinths and daffodils, and minor bulbs—there are some great choices!!
Details for Bulb order pick up:Saturday Oct. 20th from 9 a.m. - noon (Bulbs that are not picked up at the MSU Extension office by Tuesday Oct. 23rdwill be planted in the GIG!!)
