Community Garlic Mustard Pull (Mattawan)

Sponsoring Organization: Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy

Date: May 6

Start Time: 1 pm

End Time: 4 pm

Location : Portman Nature Preserve 49th Ave., Mattawan, Michigan 49079

Description of the Event:

Fill a garbage bag and feel good about it!

Bring your kids and spend an hour with other conservation-minded families in helping to eliminate this pesky plant from the woods of Portman Nature Preserve. You and your kids will experience the positive energy that comes with community volunteering and the satisfaction that comes with contributing to a mountain of garbage bags stuffed with garlic mustard!

BRING: Wear weather-appropriate clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, wet, or snagged – and comfortable shoes that can also get dirty. SWMLC will provide tools, water, and snacks.

RSVP: RSVP's help us to plan our events and workdays. If you would like to come, please let us know by sending a quick email or giving us a call at 269-324-1600. Thank you!

A Google Map to the preserve is available on our website

DIRECTIONS: From I-94 take the Mattawan Exit (# 66) and head north (right) from the traffic circle onto Main Street. Head north for 1 mile to reach Red Arrow Highway, then turn left (west). Go west for 1.5 miles, then turn right (north) onto 27th Street (look for Owsiany Farm Stand on the corner). Continue traveling north for 0.75 mile, then turn left (west) onto 49th Avenue. Go about 0.75 mile to the preserve entrance on the right/north side of the road (just west of the old white farm house at #28534).

Anyone is welcome to pitch in to help keep our preserves up to snuff. It's a wonderful way to experience the preserves with the folks who know them best, plus get acquainted with other active people who share the conservation spirit.
