Daylilies in sizzling summer shades of pink, purple, orange, red and yellow will create a carnival of color at Specialty Growers during our annual Daylily Dig Open House on Saturday, July 21. These newest floral sensations include the amazing “Ruby Spider” with flowers up to 7 inches across, the deep saturated purple “Nosferatu,” and two delightfully true-pink daylilies, “Stolen Treasure” and “Passionate Returns.” Among the brand new introductions are the purple-on-purple “Storm Shelter” and “Orange Smoothie,” a delicious-looking light orange with deeper orange markings. The miniature re-blooming lavender “Stephanie Returns” promises to be a show-stopper at this year’s Daylily Dig. Special “eyed” varieties including “Blackthorne,” “Blueberry Candy,” and “El Desperado” also will be featured. The Open House runs from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and is open to the public at no charge.
