Description of the Event: Gardeners have a constant thirst for knowledge, and Advanced Master Gardener Janet Macunovich will help feed that desire at a day of study planned this summer in Petoskey.
The Northern Michigan Master Gardeners Association is hosting the dynamic professional gardener at a day-long seminar on Saturday, Aug. 3, at North Central Michigan College, 1515 Howard St. Registration is currently under way and gardeners have until July 19 to register for what promises to be a fun-filled day of learning.
Macunovich will inform and entertain gardeners with her "Gardening for Life" program. The seminar will include lunch and snack breaks with the schedule as follows:
• 8:30 a.m. — Welcome
• 9-10:30 a.m. — "Care of a Perennial Garden April-November"
• 10:30 a.m. — Break
• 10:45 a.m-noon — "Care of a Perennial Garden" continues
• Noon-1 p.m. — Lunch
• 1-2:30 p.m. — "Renovating a Perennial Bed"
• 2:30 p.m. — Break
• 3-4:30 p.m. — "Make Life Easier, Plan a Low Maintenance Garden"
The cost to attend is $45. Local nurseries and garden centers have donated table centerpieces and gift cards which will be given away to lucky seminar attendees.
Macunovich is a prolific author of garden books including "Caring for Perennials," "All About Successful Perennial Gardening," "Designing Your Gardens and Landscapes" and "8 Months of Color."  Her garden columns appear in Michigan Gardener magazine, and she was the garden columnist for the Detroit News from 1993-2005 and a featured columnist in Better Homes and Gardens from 1999-2004. Macunovich has been designing, planting and maintaining gardens and landscapes for more than 30 years, and has presented garden and landscape seminars and workshops for organizations across the U.S. and Canada. She also co-owns the landscape and design company Perennial Favorites in southern Michigan with her partner Steven Nikkila.
