April 6th is the registration deadline for the Bay de Noc Gardening Conference in Escanaba. Only pre-paid registrations will be accepted. No walk-ins allowed. The event features 20 different classes on a variety of yard and garden topics.
Description of the Event:
Participants will be able to choose to attend four classes at this day long conference. Dave Rettig will be presenting classes on Japanese gardens and naturalistic pruning. Shrubs in the landscape and orchids are the topics discussed by Dr. Dave Gafner. Other conference topics include fruit tree maintenance, cucurbits, shade gardening, miniature gardens, small fruits, invasive species, cut flowers, clematis, willow making, backyard grapes, mushrooms, smart lawns with pollinators, bird friendly yards, pickling food, and houseplants. Chef Robin Holmes of Pacinos will be back to demonstrate simple cooking techniques.
The cost of the program is $40.00 per person, which includes morning refreshments, lunch, and up to four classes. Only pre-paid registrations will be accepted. Brochures can be picked up in the Escanaba area at Mel’s Lawn and Garden, Wickert Floral, Pam’s Petals, Tractor Supply, Escanaba Downtown Development Authority, and the Bonifas Arts Center. In the Marquette area, brochures are available at Flower Works, Forsbergs…a New Leaf, and Northwoods Flora. The program is open to anyone with an interest in gardening, regardless of experience. The program also qualifies for Master Gardener educational credit. Wheelchairs will be available upon request to assist in travel to cafeteria.
