- "From Lawns to Riches" Presenter: Jeff Epping, Director of Horticulture, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Madison Wisconsin
Over the course of five years or so, we have come to learn that gardens need to do more than just look pretty. Experts like Doug Tallamy and many others have shown us how important our gardens are to the health of insects, birds and all the other wonderful creatures that could inhabit our gardens. So...how do we do that? By changing our gardens a little each year beginning with replacing something we all have way too much of - LAWN!!. Lawns are by far the most environmentally UNFRIENDLY components of our gardens, sucking up a multitude of resources and space that could be occupied with life-giving native plants - something almost all gardens need more of. Horticulturist, Jeff Epping, has made a career of creating beautiful gardens that are as good for people as they are for the environment. He will show you a multitude of great plants and innovative designs from Olbrich and elsewhere to chip away at that lawn and create an eco-friendlier garden.
