Great Lakes Invaders and Ecology

In his presentation O’Keefe will share insights about current invasive species invading the great lakes and what is being done to identify and control these species.

About the Speaker
O’Keefe is a MSUE educator who serves seven counties along the coast of Lake Michigan. He received his bachelor’s of science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from MSU, his master’s in biology from CMU and a doctorate in Wildlife and Fisheries from Mississippi State University.

O’Keefe has been with the the Michigan Sea Grant for 13 years. During this time he has developed many education and outreach programs. O’Keefe coordinated with Michigan DNR regarding fisheries issues in preparation for basin-wide management plans, a governor-appointed council regarding development of offshore wind energy legislation and a Michigan House of Representatives committee regarding Asian carp and other invasive species.
