Learning woody plants' unique family characteristics will provide you with easy-to-remember techniques that you can apply when identifying them in the landscape. Whether viewing majestic trees or smaller specimens, you will learn some easy clues to help you identify many types of common woody plants. And, by increasing your knowledge of terminology and basic traits for each genus, it becomes more straightforward for easy and accurate identification. Using recorded videos of tree and shrub specimen, MSU Extension Senior Horticulture Educator, Rebecca Finneran, will demonstrate the entire process of identification from beginning to end. The basic skills you learn in this session will be used during the second part of this series.
