Snow Meadow Trek/Hidden Lakes Gardens

The snow has settled on the forest floor, and many people believe hiking season is over until the snow melts away in spring. Don’t believe it! Come to Hidden Lake Gardens for a guided trek with Jon Genereaux for an easy to moderate winter hike. Half of the hike is off main trails as we venture out to cut pathways around snow-dusted trees, through frost-covered leaves, and over open grass meadows. Animals bound through the snow leaving mazes of footprints for us to observe their way of searching for food sources to stay fed just one more day. As your boots crunch on the hardened earth, you will relish in the silence that winter bestows.

You do not need to be an expert winter hiker; the terrain is relatively flat to slightly rolling. Winter hiking can be a challenge for some as deep snow can be difficult to move through. Trek guide Jon Genereaux will be breaking trail, so know your physical abilities and be prepared for current day weather conditions. Walking sticks and trekking poles will be helpful maneuvering the terrain.

“In this world of ours, a sparrow must live like a hawk if he is to fly at all.” Hey…“don’t laugh at the hat, keeps me warm on cold nights.”

Cost: $15 member / $18 non-member / $5 ages 13-17 (Trek is focused toward adults and may not be appropriate for children ages 12 and under).

Limit: 25 Participants. Please call 517-431-2060 to register.

PLEASE NOTE: This 2.5 hour trek does go “off trail.” Participants must be in reasonably good walking and heart health condition for this 2.5 hour trek. Wear hiking shoes or snow boots and dress for the weather. Walking sticks, trekking poles or even ski poles would be very helpful moving through and maneuvering over the terrain.
